WWE Star Refuses To Criticise AEW Or Tony Khan
A former AEW star has no issues with Tony Khan.
Back in February, Shawn Spears made a surprise to NXT a month after becoming a free agent. Spears, who had been known as Tye Dillinger, was granted his release by WWE in 2019 and spent four years in AEW before making his return.
During his time in AEW, Spears became known as ‘The Chairman’ and formed part of The Pinnacle with MJF, FTR, Wardlow, and Tully Blanchard. However, after the group disbanded he found on-screen appearances harder and harder to come by.
Shawn Spears Full Of Praise For Tony Khan
Speaking in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Spears reflected on his time in AEW working with Tony Khan. The star explained that he enjoyed his time with the company and won’t be getting into any tribal point-scoring.
“It just came down to a personal want in terms of wanting to contribute a little bit more, both in front of the camera and behind the camera. I had a wonderful time in AEW. I have and have had a great relationship with Tony Khan.
You’re never going to hear me say anything bad about that guy. Same thing with a lot of EVPs, talent, everything. I had a wonderful time. I got to learn a lot about myself as a businessman and a lot more of what not to do. More so of, it’s okay to put your foot down and have faith in what you’re worth and your ability.
It was a really good learning process in terms of being an individual at a different company, but my time there was special. Getting to work with all the top guys based on my storyline with Max, FTR, and things like that. A lot of things I would have never gotten to do in my career, I was very fortunate enough to do there.”
During the same interview, Shawn Spears admitted he’d like to retire in WWE, commenting that he feels he’s in the right place to spend the rest of his days in wrestling.
Meanwhile, on October 2nd AEW will celebrate the fifth anniversary of its flagship show Dynamite, and Tony Khan has teased a major announcement is on the way. It’s widely believed the AEW boss will reveal a new media rights deal with Warner Bros Discovery.
