Ex-WWE Star Lex Luger Maintains He Did Not Kill Miss Elizabeth
Lex Luger understands why fans insist he’s responsible for Miss Elizabeth’s death.
Following the closure of WCW in 2001, Lex Luger was one of the many big names who didn’t make their way to WWE. During this period, Luger became heavily involved with alcohol and drugs, and by his own admission, his life went off the rails.
On May 1, 2003, Luger’s then partner and fellow wrestling legend Miss Elizabeth passed away aged just 42. Luger and Elizabeth had been in a stormy relationship at the time, as both spiralled out of control. There were allegations of domestic abuse, and Elizabeth died as a result of “acute toxicity” caused by a mix of drugs and vodka.
As the tragic events unfolded, it was Luger who called 911, and many fans blame him for her death, despite it being ruled accidental.
During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Luger again denied killing Elizabeth but conceded that his lifestyle at the time played a huge role.
“After that, everything happened. I got messed up on the wine and women, I had too much time and money on my hands. Got messed up on drugs and alcohol, and had a period where I was a complete train wreck.
The tragic passing of Elizabeth. Obviously people go, ‘Well, he killed Elizabeth.’ Well, I didn’t kill her. But was I a contributing factor to the lifestyle I was living and her being around me all the time and she overdosed? Absolutely.”
When asked whether he took responsibility for what happened, he said that he did.
“Absolutely. For sure. There is always collateral damage to lifestyles like that and she was part of it, absolutely. Sadly.”
Lex Luger Understands Fans’ Resentment
When it was put to the former World Champion that a section of wrestling fans still hold him responsible for Elizabeth’s death, he commented that he understands why they feel so strongly.
“No doubt, and I totally understand, I do, yeah. I get it. She was a beloved character, Liz, and I’ll always be tied as part of what happened with her. And I get that I have haters out there. I understand where they’re coming from. I get it.”
Luger added that following Elizabeth’s passing, he fell into an even deeper depression that only increased his already dangerous alcohol and drug use. After finding himself “drowning in darkness” at the bottom of a “deep and dark hole,” Luger became a born-again Christian and eventually turned his life around.
In a recent video, Lex Luger was shown climbing out of his wheelchair as he attempts to walk again.
