Top WWE Star Doesn’t Believe John Cena’s Really Retiring

WWE John Cena

John Cena is on the verge of his last-ever match as a WWE star, but one of his old rivals simply doesn’t believe it.

John Cena is set to compete for the final time in his iconic career at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th. The Last Time Is Now tournament begins with two matches on Raw in Boston, with sixteen WWE stars getting the chance to earn the right to be called John Cena’s final opponent.

But one of those men isn’t holding his breath that this will really be John Cena’s final match.

Speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri at SHAK Wrestling, Rusev gave his thoughts on John Cena’s impending retirement and says he’s not convinced we’re all about to see Cena’s final match:

I don’t believe it. I’m not holding my breath. I love John [Cena], and this may be his last match of this century or whatnot, but at some point, I want to see him back, whenever that is.

Will John Cena Fall Into Retirement Trap?

Rusev has every reason to be sceptical thanks to the never-ending list of wrestling retirements that have been abandoned. Terry Funk famously first retired in 1983 and hung up his boots several more times over the decades before finally having his last match in 2016.

Ric Flair was given the ultimate WWE send-off with a WrestleMania 24 showdown with Shawn Michaels. However, 20 months after that match, The Nature Boy was back in the ring, and it was only in 2022 that he had what was billed as his final bout. Shawn Michaels, himself, went back on his own retirement after losing the career vs. streak match to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.

It took eight years for Michaels to be lured back to the ring by the riches on offer from Saudi Arabia as he teamed with Triple H to defeat The Undertaker and Kane at Crown Jewel 2018 in one of the worst matches of all time.

However, John Cena has doubled down on his intention to truly hang up his boots, so it remains to be seen if the call of the ring could ever be too much for him to ignore in the future.
