WWE Star Set For High-Profile SummerSlam Match Despite Being “Banged Up”
A former World Champion will be heavily featured at SummerSlam despite being banged up.
Following his Cage Match against Damian Priest at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Drew McIntyre went on hiatus, and he’s yet to return to the ring.
At the time, it was believed that McIntyre was taking time off to deal with nagging injuries after a particularly bruising year. However, according to a new report, there’s more concern around his opponent, Priest, than the Scottish star himself.
Ahead of the match, it was reported that Damian Priest had earned significant praise backstage for continuing to work while banged up, with several Superstars impressed he was able to continue performing at such a high level. And now it seems that Priest will be rewarded for his perseverance.
As reported by Fightful Select, Priest was banged up for much of his feud with McIntyre, while sustaining some injuries along the way. WWE sources noted that working through SummerSlam is important to the star as the event will be held in New York.
There’s said to be “significant” creative plans for Priest at SummerSlam, but at present, there’s no word on what these plans might be.
The report noted that McIntyre’s hiatus is “contractual,” but no further details were given.
Damian Priest Lifts Lid On WWE Contract
During a recent media appearance, Damian Priest confirmed that he had signed a new multi-year contract with WWE following WrestleMania 40. During the negotiations, Priest ensured that he would be allowed to fly first class to reduce the impact traveling had on his body.
Amusingly, when he made the request, WWE officials informed him that he should have been in first class already.
Priest was most recently in action on the June 13 episode of SmackDown, where he failed to qualify for the King of the Ring semi-finals.
