WWE star R-Truth was released in 2025.

The Stamford-based promotion let go of Truth in June 2025 when his contract expired. It happened after a loss to John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24, 2025.

The announcement shocked fans and wrestlers, leading to widespread backlash.

He returned just six days later at Money in the Bank 2025, and helped Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso to defeat Cena and Logan Paul, and re-signed immediately.

Upon his return, he debuted a serious “Ron Killings” persona but soon reverted to his comedic R-Truth gimmick.

R-Truth’s release and return are set to be featured on the second season of WWE’s Unreal docuseries, which will drop on Netflix on January 20.

R-Truth Talks About His WWE Release and Comeback

Ahead of the release of season 2, Truth appeared in an interview with Stephen A Smith, where he talked about his WWE departure and comeback and explained his state of mind during that time period.

Truth revealed that he was “numb” after WWE released him. But he’s happy that he got to experience the situation because it made him realize how much the fans love him.

“It was numb, Steve. Sometimes we lose and forget who we are. There are people my age and older, their time ain’t up. I think Father Time, each individual has its own time when it’s time, and we have time to make something happen within that time.”

“I think everything that happened at the right time for me, because as we saw, man, I’m more popular and valuable than I’ve ever been in my life and my career. Over hundreds of millions of people showed and told me that.”

R-Truth recently revealed that his current WWE contract might be his last, insinuating that his days in the company are numbered.
