Current WWE Star Deserves to Break John Cena’s Title Record

John Cena WWE

One WWE Hall of Famer has backed a current star in the company to break John Cena’s WWE Title record.

John Cena made history at WrestleMania 41 when he captured the WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes. The win brought Cena the 17th world title of his career, breaking the WWE-recognised tie for most world title reigns of all time with Ric Flair.

But there’s another star who isn’t far away from that record, and JBL thinks they should be the one to take the mantle from Cena.

Randy Orton To Overtake John Cena In WWE?

On the Something To Wrestle podcast, JBL was asked if he could’ve ever won the WWE Championship under his Justin ‘Hawk’ Bradshaw persona and explained why that would have been similar to Randy Orton’s first World Heavyweight Championship win in 2004, which came so early in Orton’s career:

I think very similar to [how] Randy Orton talks about when he won the championship when he was just so young. I think what they were doing at the time, you know how they erase history when guys set records. Brock [Lesnar] had set the record for the youngest guy and Brock had gone to the UFC, so you needed somebody to break Brock’s record.

JBL added that Orton was the right guy to break Lesnar’s record at that time and thinks he could be the right guy to go on to beat Cena’s record:

Randy was the right guy. Randy was the guy. Randy may break the all-time record and Randy deserves to, he’s that good.

Randy Orton currently has 14 WWE Title reigns to his name and failed to win the gold for the 15th time in his career when he lost to Cena in his hometown at Backlash.
