Former WWE Star Credits Roman Reigns’ Rise To Paul Heyman’s Genius
Roman Reigns likely reached his best version from 2020 onwards, when he adopted the moniker of ‘The Tribal Chief’.
He led The Bloodline through several successful years until the faction fizzled in 2025 when all faction members went on their own journeys. However, the faction’s name is still taken with pride among the members and is referred to as such whenever the members share the ring.
The transformation of The Usos and Reigns to top heels and then becoming top babyfaces in the company is one that others need to study. It’s a template for success, and the former champions did that in the best way possible.
Ronda Rousey’s claim about Roman Reigns’ success
Ronda Rousey gave her two cents on success in WWE and MMA. She pointed out that legacy success in WWE is easy because it’s scripted, but MMA is much different, and one has to win to keep up the success.
However, on Bertcast, she claimed that Roman Reigns’ success only came about when Paul Heyman took over. Before that, no one wanted to see him in the ring despite his coming from a famed family in the wrestling business.
Roman Reigns, they tried so hard to get him over for so long, and there was ‘f**k you Roman’ chants, and no-one wanted him because he had so many of those advantages. He was young, good-looking, talented, came from a famous family. No-one identified with that.
It wasn’t until Paul Heyman came in and found a way to repackage everything as the Head of the Table and all of that. That is Paul Heyman’s genius that got him over. [h/t: Wrestletalk]

It may not be entirely true that no one resonated with Reigns prior to him becoming The Tribal Chief. He was a well-established figure as a member of The Shield, which is one of WWE’s greatest factions.
