WWE Star Glad Company Rejected Pitch For Shock Heel Turn

A popular WWE star has admitted they’re happy the company didn’t listen to their creative plans.

Back in 2021, Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik won the SmackDown Tag Team Titles becoming the first father and son team to win WWE gold. However, their partnership came to a shuddering halt at Clash at the Castle in September 2022 when Dominik turned heel and joined Judgment Day.

Since then, Dominik’s career has gone from strength to strength as he became one of the top heels in the company. But, if Rey would have had his way, things might have played out a little differently.

During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, the WWE Hall of Famer said he actually pitched to turn heel first, but he was quickly talked out of it.

I remember bringing it up one time, when Dom (Mysterio) and I were working together (idea of turning on Dominik). I brought it up to Vince (McMahon) and it was brief. Like, ‘Maybe I turn on Dom’ and we continue with something along the way.

But, getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like, ‘No. You’re the babyface that could never be heel. You’re Ricky Steamboat,’ you know? ‘Nobody can ever see you as a heel. I don’t think they would buy into it,’ and I’m kind of glad that I listened and that they didn’t listen to me because the best thing that could have happened is for Dom to become the heel and be the evil one.

Rey Mysterio Not Ready To Leave WWE Behind

In the same interview, Rey Mysterio refused to put a deadline on his retirement plans. The veteran said he’ll continue to listen to his body and ability to keep the right mindset when it comes to deciding when to retire.

Mysterio was most recently in action on the June 17th episode of Raw where he took on Finn Balor and Jey Uso in a Money in the Bank qualifying match.
