WWE Star Beats TNA World Champion To Book Heatwave Match
The TNA World Champion has lost on NXT TV as one WWE star books a huge title match at Heatwave.
Trick Williams shocked the world when he defeated Joe Hendry to become TNA World Champion at Battleground in May. Williams most recently retained that title at Emergence when he defeated long-time TNA star Moose.
Despite holding the top prize in TNA, Williams is still hunting to recapture the NXT Championship currently held by Oba Femi. But he’s not the only one.
On the August 19th edition of NXT, Trick Williams clashed with Je’Von Evans for the right to challenge Oba Femi for his title at Heatwave on the 24th of August.
TNA star Mike Santana made his presence felt during the bout, distracting Williams and allowing Evans to beat the TNA World Champion.
The confirmed card for Heatwave is now:
- Oba Femi (c) vs. Je’Von Evans – NXT Championship
- Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Ash By Elegance vs. Masha Slamovich – TNA Knockouts Championship
- Hank & Tank (c) vs. DarkState – NXT Tag Team Championship
- Lola Vice vs. Jaida Parker vs. Kelani Jordan – Number 1 contender match for NXT Women’s Title
- Jordynne Grace vs. Blake Monroe
- Ethan Page & Chelsea Green vs. Tavion Heights & Tyra Mae Steele
WWE & AEW Go Head To Head Again
WWE has not been shy about counter-programming AEW since the company was born, but those efforts have really ramped up in recent months.
WWE surrounded AEW All In Texas with three shows on the same weekend, and the main roster will go head-to-head for the first time with AEW All Out in a PLE that has yet to be announced. That event is expected to be headlined by Brock Lesnar’s first match in two years against John Cena.
NXT Heatwave will take place on the same day as AEW presents Forbidden Door from London, England.
