John Cena’s history in WWE is one for the storytellers. He became a fan favorite as soon as he answered Kurt Angle’s open challenge for the United States Championship by kicking off the ‘Ruthless Aggression’ era.

The Champ debuted in 2002 and is currently on his Farewell Tour. While he couldn’t add everyone he has worked with to the tour, he did revive some old rivalries and create some new ones.

He worked with Randy Orton, Logan Paul, Sami Zayn, CM Punk, among others. One man who stands out in the crowd is R-Truth. He battled John Cena twice during the Farewell Tour under two different personas!

The WWE veteran battled The Champ as R-Truth once, which he lost. Soon afterward, he was released from the Stamford-based promotion. Public outrage forced WWE to bring him back, but this time, he returned as Ron Killings. He fought John Cena as Ron Killings the second time.

During an interview with CBS Sports, Truth revealed that he feels honored and appreciated for being one of the two people who wrestled John Cena twice during the Farewell Tour, the other being Cody Rhodes.

I’m tickled pink, dog. I love it. It’s a humbling thing. I feel honored. I feel appreciated. I feel like a lot of fans know the history we’ve had. People have paid attention. There are so many things that go around with that. It’s hard to pick one good emotion out of it.

John Cena’s last match is on December 13th, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event. While his opponent hasn’t been finalized, reports suggest WWE is narrowing down on Gunther as Cena’s retirement match.
