The WWE Star That Saved AJ Styles From Trouble With Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon WWE

WWE enforced strict match time limits under Vince McMahon to maintain precise show runtime and commercial breaks.

McMahon frequently got furious with wrestlers who went over those limits. He used to monitor matches closely from the Gorilla position to prevent overruns that disrupted the flow. He viewed overruns as unprofessional.

AJ Styles recently appeared on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast, where he detailed an incident that involved him and Shane McMahon going over the decided time limit. It was WrestleMania 33, and they opened the night.

Styles stated that he didn’t care about the time limit when he wrestled Shane-O-Mac because they always pulled off amazing fights. And because of that, McMahon used to excuse them for going overtime.

“Well, I’ll tell you the other guy, too. Shane McMahon. I was like, well, I don’t have to worry about time. That was another. All right, we’re going first. Perfect… Well, I will say this. We kind of tore the house down on that one [WM33]. So Vince didn’t say anything. In fact, he gave him a hug, so he must have done something right. So yeah, I’ve seen it with my own eyes.”

AJ Styles Wants His Fans To Celebrate After His WWE Retirement

AJ Styles is set to retire in 2026. Addressing his upcoming retirement in the same podcast, he asked his fans not to get sad after he hangs up his boots, because he feels the moment calls for celebration, as he will retire on his own terms.

“Here’s the thing about retirement, it is the opportunity to go out of your way not because of injury but standing on your own two feet, and the goal of working is to retire. And to be able to do that, to me, is a celebration, so I hope that when it does happen, you guys celebrate with me that I achieved my goals.”
