WWE Shockingly Planning To Split Tag Team After 8 Years
It seems Triple H might be ready to make the unpopular decision to split up a beloved WWE tag team after eight years together.
At Clash In Paris, the headlines were stolen by Becky Lynch as she screwed CM Punk out of the World Heavyweight Championship, giving a timely assist to her husband, Seth Rollins.
Earlier in the night, one tag team found themselves hard done by as the Street Profits challenged the Wyatt Sicks for the WWE Tag Team Championship. Nikki Cross stopped Montez Ford from returning to the ring before Uncle Howdy dropped him with a Sister Abigail on the floor to ensure Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy retained their gold.
As bad as that loss might have been, worse could be to come with Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins teasing dissension between themselves during that match. One sign WWE has long used to signal that a split could well be coming.
Split Coming In WWE For Street Profits?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why WWE is looking to split up the Street Profits and why that might be especially tough for one member of the popular team:
Now they’re [Street Profits] gonna split up, which—they’re both really talented guys. I think [Angelo] Dawkins, it’s gonna be really tough for him on his own, even though he’s really good, he’s big, he’s agile, and all that. [Montez] Ford does excellent things in the ring. They could do something with him.
I have known people who thought he was a future World Champion four years ago. And nobody’s been saying that lately because they’ve just—I wouldn’t even say they’ve run in place. They’ve run backwards. And I wouldn’t even say it’s their fault. It’s the fault of creative for taking what they had that was charismatic and just removing the charisma from them, really.
Ford and Dawkins have been a team since 2017, when they first partnered up in NXT. The team captured the NXT Tag Team Championship in June 2019, holding the gold before losing it to the Undisputed ERA just two months later. On the main roster, the Street Profits have held versions of the WWE Tag Team Championship on three occasions.
