WWE Sources Insist There Are No Plans For Vince McMahon’s Return
WWE remains adamant that Vince McMahon won’t return to the company.
On August 24, Vince McMahon celebrated his 80th birthday, and several current and former WWE stars were on hand. According to initial reports, John Cena, Drew McIntyre, The Miz, and more were all in attendance despite McMahon’s exit from WWE in early 2024.
Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler later shared a photo on social media from the celebrations in New York, but it was quickly deleted.
The presence of so many current WWE stars has only added to speculation that McMahon could yet return to WWE capacity. Although most concede that a return in an official capacity is all but impossible, there’s growing speculation he could appear at Cena’s retirement match in December.
Several WWE Stars Turned Down Vince McMahon Invite
A new report from Fightful Select has given an update on WWE’s stance on McMahon, alongside more details on his recent birthday party.
As noted in the report, the party was intended to be a private affair, with attendees encouraged to use the professional photographer employed on the night for photos. When Jerry Lawler posted one of these photos on social media, he was quickly told to take it down.
With regard to WWE talent in attendance, one noted that “a lot of people here still feel like they owe Vince something, even though he made his money back on them tenfold.” While another admitted they had a “moral conflict” about attending.
Interestingly, many more talents were invited, but they decided not to attend. The consensus was that if they were in McMahon’s situation, he would have turned his back on them.
Fightful added that there was “no official WWE involvement” in the gathering, and when one talent asked about attending, they were told it was their personal decision. Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Nick Khan were not there.
One guest who hadn’t seen McMahon in several years said he looked his age and looked frail, pointing to how slowly he was moving around.
There has been no talk of a WWE comeback for McMahon, and sources at the top of the company suggest there’s no desire to bring him back.
Vince McMahon stepped down from WWE and the TKO Group in January 2024 after being accused of sexual abuse and sex trafficking in a lawsuit filed by ex-WWE employee Janel Grant. Since then, McMahon has also been named in another lawsuit linked to the ring boys scandal.
