First 3-Hour WWE SmackDown To Feature Tag Team Main Event

A tag team match will likely be in the main event spot of WWE’s first-ever three-hour SmackDown broadcast.

The January 6th edition of WWE Monday Night Raw is getting a lot of attention with good reason since it’s the Raw debut on Netflix. However, there’s also a history-making edition of SmackDown before Raw.

For the first 25 years of WWE SmackDown, it was a two-hour show. Starting with the January 3rd episode in Phoenix, SmackDown will be a three-hour show every Friday night on USA Network in the US and Netflix in many other parts of the world.

While WWE has advertised some matches for the show, Wrestlevotes reported on X that there’s a big six-man tag set to be the main event of the show.

Tonight’s first-ever 3-hour #SmackDown will be headlined by a six-man tag match: The Bloodline vs. Sami Zayn, Jimmy Uso, and Braun Strowman.

The Bloodline trio currently consists of Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu while Zayn, Jimmy and Strowman are all men who have had issues with The Bloodline group of late.

Other matches confirmed for SmackDown in Phoenix are Nia Jax defending the WWE Women’s Title against Naomi and Shinsuke Nakamura facing Andrade in a match that isn’t for Nakamura’s United States Title.

WWE Swapping Ring Announcers For Raw And SmackDown

It seems like the commentary teams and ring announcers for WWE television shows are constantly changing. Lilian Garcia replaced Samantha Irvin on Raw last October, but now there’s a change coming.

Lilian Garcia will be handling the ring announcer duties on SmackDown moving forward while Alicia Taylor goes from the blue brand over to Raw starting with the January 6th episode. Mike Rome, who has been on all three WWE brands in his career, will likely be staying on NXT.

TJRWrestling will have full coverage of tonight’s WWE SmackDown episode from Phoenix.

UPDATE: WWE SmackDown GM Nick Aldis announced on social media that the main event for Smackdown is The Bloodline against Sami Zayn and The Usos. It’s possible that Jey Uso could be taken out and replaced by Strowman or WWE could be going with this match instead.
