WWE SmackDown Star Set For In-Ring Return After 3 Months
A big match has been set up for WWE SmackDown featuring a wrestler who doesn’t compete in the ring that often.
Talla Tonga was signed by WWE for over a year before he officially debuted at the Night of Champions PLE in June. That night, Talla helped Solo Sikoa beat Jacob Fatu for the US Title.
Since his debut, Talla has been part of Solo’s stable called MFT, which stands for My Family Tree. The others in the stable are Talla’s brothers, Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa, and JC Mateo, who is a veteran wrestler who used to be known as Jeff Cobb.
In recent weeks on WWE SmackDown, Talla has been involved in Tama & JC’s matches. On the October 24th edition of WWE SmackDown, the MFTs beat Rey Fenix and Shinsuke Nakamura when Talla gave Rey a Chokeslam on the apron, and Rey was beaten moments later.
Talla Tonga Booked For First WWE Match In Three Months
On the Halloween edition of WWE SmackDown in Salt Lake City, Solo Sikoa was backstage with MFTs as Rey Fenix approached. Fenix said he didn’t want to fight Solo. Fenix stood on a box and said he wanted to fight Talla Tonga. Solo said alright, you can do it next week. Fenix slapped Talla and left. While they were talking, Erick Rowan of the Wyatt Sicks was looking in the background.
The Rey Fenix-Talla Tonga match was made official later in the show.
Later on the same Halloween episode of WWE SmackDown, the MFTs got involved again to help JC & Tama beat the Motor City Machine Guns. The Guns kicked Talla to stop him from interfering. Solo went on the apron, the referee looked at him, and Loa shoved Shelley off the top to the floor. Sabin punched Loa, so Tama hit a running elbow smash called the Cutthroat for the pinfall win.
For Talla Tonga, the November 7th WWE SmackDown match will be just his third televised match and the first one since August 8th, when he teamed up with JC Mateo to beat The Motor City Machine Guns in tag team action.
