WWE Smackdown Preview – September 23, 2022
It’s an episode of Smackdown that will feature a lot of The Bloodline as The Usos defend their Tag Team Titles while the “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns is back on the blue brand.
Here’s a look at what WWE is advertising on Smackdown this evening based on what’s on their website. Tonight’s show takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Roman Reigns returns to his rightful place at the table
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is back on Smackdown after not being on the show for a few weeks. Even though Reigns wasn’t on the show last week, he was at a Las Vegas press conference with Logan Paul where WWE’s Chief Content Officer announced that Reigns will defend his two titles against Paul at WWE Crown Jewel on November 5th.
This will also be the first Smackdown since Solo Sikoa joined The Bloodline where the entire group will be together on Smackdown. That includes Reigns, Sikoa, The Usos, “Special Counsel” Paul Heyman and of course, the “Honorary Uce” Sami Zayn.
Brawling Brutes aim for tag team gold in battle against The Usos
The Brawling Brutes team of Butch & Ridge Holland picked up a big victory last week on Smackdown in a Fatal 4-Way match with The New Day, Hit Row and Imperium. Thanks to that victory, Butch & Ridge will get to challenge The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. The Usos have been the Smackdown Tag Team Champions for over 400 days after winning them 14 months ago. Are the Brawling Brutes the right team to take the titles from The Usos? Find out tonight on Smackdown.
Braun Strowman looks to make explosive impact in return match against Otis
In a matchup between two of WWE’s biggest competitors (in terms of weight), Braun Strowman will have his first match since returning to the company earlier this month. Last week on Smackdown, Strowman had to deal with Alpha Academy’s Otis and Gable, so that’s why they are having the match this week. A win for Strowman is very likely. As a “Wise Man” might say, that’s not a prediction…that’s a spoiler.
One of Smackdown’s main feuds is between Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross, so there could be something that happens leading to a match being announced for Extreme Rules. Last week’s Smackdown featured comments from both men.
As always, WWE could and likely will advertise more matches/segments during the day before Smackdown, so check their social media accounts for updates.
The next WWE Premium Live event is Extreme Rules on Saturday, October 8th in Philadelphia with the following matches officially announced.
Fight Pit Match: Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins
Extreme Rules Match for the Smackdown Women’s Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Ronda Rousey
Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley – It’s actually not on WWE’s website at the moment, but after Bayley made the challenge it should become official soon.
I will be back later this evening for a live review of tonight’s episode of Smackdown. Thank you for supporting us at TJRWrestling. We love you like The Bloodline loves championships.
