AEW Collision Going Head To Head Against WWE SmackDown
There will be a Friday night showdown between WWE SmackDown and AEW Collision.
Ever since All Elite Wrestling launched in January 2019, they have been in battle with World Wrestling Entertainment in terms of hiring and firing talent as well as trying to win over wrestling fans. While the “war” may not be far due to WWE existing for over 50 years and AEW existing for less than six years, it’s still a battle that wrestling fans love to talk (and argue) about.
When AEW launched Dynamite in October 2019 it went head to head with WWE’s third brand NXT on Wednesday nights. That ended when WWE moved NXT to Tuesday, which led to a bigger audience for NXT and Collision as well.
There have been some occasions when Friday night Smackdown has faced AEW competition and it’s going to happen again on Friday, September 6th when Collision airs live from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on TNT from the Now Arena in Chicago.
The reason for Collision airing on Friday night is because Saturday, September 7th in the AEW All Out pay-per-view from Chicago, so AEW obviously isn’t going to air Collision on on television against their own pay-per-view.
Final WWE SmackDown episode on FOX
That September 6th date is also interesting for WWE because it’s the final SmackDown episode that will air on FOX. That Smackdown episode will air from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Friday, September 6th.
On September 13th, Smackdown returns to USA Network for a five-year run with that episode in Seattle.
It’s a busy period of major shows for WWE and AEW. That’s because it’s Bash in Berlin airing today on August 31st while NXT No Mercy is tomorrow, September 1st.
In AEW land, they just had All In London last weekend on August 25th and there are just 13 days in between that show and the All Out PPV from Chicago on September 7th.
