WWE Slammed For Allowing Fans To Touch Female Stars At Evolution
The WWE Evolution 2 PLE received praise from viewers.
While the reception was not as overwhelmingly positive as the inaugural edition, fans liked the quality of matches that were put on the July 13 show.
The card featured 7 matches, including a battle royal, which Stephanie Vaquer won, securing herself a title match at Clash of Paris.
Only one title changed hands when Naomi cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase during the main event match between Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.
The crowd in Atlanta, Georgia, also appeared raucous, which was an indication of them being highly engaged with the in-ring action.
However, it also received some criticism, especially regarding how the walkway was designed.
WWE Slammed For Narrow Walkway At Evolution
The narrow walkway at the all-women’s PLE was immediately noticeable.
The distance between the wrestlers and fans allowed the latter to reach out and touch the female stars as they made their way to the ring during their respective entrances.
An X user, while responding to an event-related query, also highlighted this inconvenience as an issue.
@RMJackson8: I loved it and definitely think they should do more. I disliked the fact they narrowed the walkway to the ring there seemed to be a lot of fans touching the female wrestlers. Charlotte seemed to not enjoy being touched on her way to the ring.
This was also pointed out during the latest Coach & Bro podcast.
If you’re having an all-women’s pay-per-view, what’s the one thing that you don’t want to have to happen? Fans touching the women when they’re walking down the isle. That isle was about 8 feet wide. I hated it, said Jonathan Coachman. [1:04:59 onwards]
Former WWE creative writer Vince Russo, who was also on the podcast, agreed with it.
Since no WWE officials or major wrestling news outlets reported any misconduct on the fans’ behalf, it can be said that the issue did not escalate into a major controversy.
