WWE Signing Given “Tremendous Contract” To Ward Off AEW
WWE made sure to get their woman.
On June 30th at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Stephanie Vaquer clashed with Mercedes Mone in a huge “Winner Takes All” Match. And when all was said and done, although Vaquer lost, her star was arguably shining brighter than ever.
The star’s performance on the show, and appearances on AEW television leading up to the event, sparked speculation around her future with fans fans expecting her to become All Elite. However, things turned out very differently.
On July 10th it was announced by CMLL that Stephanie Vaquer would be leaving the promotion, while also walking away from NJPW. As a result, Vaquer was stripped of the CMLL Women’s World Title, and the Women’s Tag Team Titles she held with Zeuxis.
Then just hours later, Shawn Michaels publicly welcomed Vaquer to WWE, making her signing official.
Stephanie Vaquer Handed Big WWE Contract
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said he’d been told by a contact within the sports entertainment giant that Vaquer would be very well paid for her services as the company was determined not to let her join AEW.
One person in WWE said she was offered “a tremendous contract” on 7/7 because they were aware of the AEW offer.
In the report, Meltzer explained that Vaquer didn’t seriously consider signing with AEW as she grew up dreaming of joining WWE.
It was reported during the week that both AEW and WWE were interested. Several sources close to the situation said that she didn’t seriously consider AEW. As someone who grew up watching WWE on television in Chile, that was her goal.
In an earlier report, Meltzer noted Stephanie Vaquer will be presented to fans at a live event in Mexico City on July 13th before officially starting with NXT.
