WWE Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Put On Hold
One of the sexual abuse lawsuits facing Vince McMahon and WWE has now been put on hold as it threatens to hang over the company in 2025.
On October 23rd 2024, it was announced that a new lawsuit had been filed against Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, WWE, and TKO. The suit alleges that those named were complicit in the sexual exploitation of children by former ring announcer and ring crew chief Melvin Phillips Jr.
The suit claims that the boys were “groomed, exploited, and sexually abused” by Phillips. It’s alleged that McMahon and others were “fully aware” of the abuses suffered by the “ring boys” who often did odd jobs for WWE in preparation for shows.
WWE Lawsuit Now On Hold
WWE filed a motion to put that lawsuit on hold until the Maryland Supreme Court makes a judgement on the Child Victims Act. The filing by WWE reads:
If the [Child Victims Act] is found to be unconstitutional, the claims here cannot go forward. Given that circumstance, it is appropriate and even necessary to stay this matter until the Supreme Court of Maryland decides that fundamental and potentially case determinative issue.
Judge James K. Bredar has now granted WWE’s motion which means the lawsuit is now on hold. A ruling from the Supreme Court of Maryland is expected before the end of August 2025.
Linda McMahon’s attorney has dismissed the lawsuit as baseless as the former WWE CEO gets ready to accept the post of Secretary of Education in Donald Trump’s government.
