WWE’s Seth Rollins Is Fighting Against Time

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins knows that the clock is ticking on his WWE career, but he’s going to keep fighting as much as he can.

The WWE debut of Seth Rollins took place 12 years ago this month at Survivor Series 2012 when he debuted with The Shield. Rollins was joined by Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose as they took out Ryback by putting him through the table, which led to CM Punk pinning John Cena in a triple threat match to retain the WWE Title.

In his WWE career since then, Rollins has won it all and done it all. It’s fair to say that Rollins is one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time already and is still competing at a high level as one of the best in-ring performers of this generation.

At WWE Crown Jewel, Rollins avenged a previous attack by Bronson Reed by beating the powerful Australian. On the Raw episode that followed, Reed made sure to let Rollins know that the rivalry wasn’t over because Reed attacked Rollins during a four-way match, which prevented Rollins from getting a World Title shot.

During an appearance on The Pivot Podcast, Seth Rollins spoke about his longevity in pro wrestling.

“I’m 37, 38 maybe? I’m 38 right now, I’ll be 39 next year. At my age, 21 years I’ve been doing this, [it’s] my body, it’s trying to keep my body together. Like I said, the schedule has diminished quite a bit, which is good for me, but yeah. There’s a couple things at my juncture.”

“I’ve got a lot of equity with our audience, so they appreciate what I do and what I’ve done, so that makes my life a little easier than a younger guy coming up, trying to make a name for himself. But trying to stay healthy as much as I can to contribute.

As he continued, Rollins spoke about the importance of keeping things fresh.

“Then trying to keep it fresh, give them something new all the time instead of doing, you can get into the same thing over and over and over, but it gets boring after a while, and as a performer, it’s not terribly fulfilling. You want to do something that feels good and fresh and exciting and gets your brain going in different ways. So those are the big ones for me now.

21 years and 2000 plus matches, so I’ve got the wrestling part of it, I can do. I can do all that stuff. But I’m fighting against time. I can’t do what I did when I was 21 no more. My body don’t do those things.”

Seth Rollins Wants Other WWE Stars To Try Outworking Him

The discussion continued with Rollins talking about what he wanted to see from other WWE superstars.

“I’m still fairly athletic for my age, but I don’t recover nearly as fast, I’ll tell you that. When I hit 35, that was it for me. I was like, wow. 35 was the one where I turned around and I was like, ‘Okay, I get it.’ I understand, it finally all caught up to me. I can’t just throw caution to the wind and go headfirst in there anymore. So those are the big ones for me.”

“When you got young guys and young girls coming up underneath you, they want to take your spot, and they should. I want you to come in here and outwork me. I want you to come in and take my spot, I want you to fight for it. But I’m gonna fight back. I’m not done, I’m gonna try everything I can. I’m gonna make it hard for you because that’s gonna make you better on the back end.”

In the same interview, Seth Rollins spoke about how sees himself like Triple H in the sense that as his in-ring career winds down, he will likely take on a backstage role.
