WWE Rumors: Update on Top Wrestlemania Matches From Smackdown

TJR Wrestling

We are another week closer to Wrestlemania 36, and once again the main event matches from Smackdown are in flux according to Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Radio. According to Meltzer, the current plan is for John Cena versus WWE Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in a rematch from Wrestlemania 30 (that was in 2014) and Roman Reigns versus WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg.

Those two planned matches are going to make today’s match at Super Showdown between Goldberg and Wyatt very interesting. If Wyatt retains later today then it is likely that Cena will be entering and winning the Elimination Chamber before going on to face Wyatt for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania. It would also mean that Cena would go for a record-breaking 17th World Title reign.

On the other hand, if Goldberg defeats Wyatt today to win the Universal Championship then it is likely that Reigns will win the Elimination Chamber match and then face Goldberg for the Universal Title at WrestleMania.

As always, and as we have already seen this year, these plans can change and should not be considered official until WWE announces the matches.

WWE Super Showdown is taking place at 12PMET today on the WWE Network with our very own John Canton writing a review of the show later today on TJRWrestling. Elimination Chamber is on March 8th and Wrestlemania will be taking place on April 5th.

Matt’s Musings: The road to Wrestlemania has been a particularly curvy one this year, with it being still unclear what the end result will be.

TJR Thoughts: I would prefer Wyatt keeps the title today because I really don’t care to see Goldberg winning another title. However, if WWE wants Reigns to have a title reign starting after WrestleMania then that’s why they might put it on Goldberg.
