Championship Match Announced For WWE Royal Rumble
The WWE Title will be on the line at the Royal Rumble.
It’s the most exciting part of the year for WWE fans because the Royal Rumble is three weeks away, which means we are on the road to WrestleMania 42 in April.
At WWE SmackDown on January 9th, General Manager Nick Aldis announced an 8-man tournament to determine the next challenger to the coveted Undisputed WWE Championship.
In this tournament, there will be four singles matches on the January 16th edition of SmackDown in London, featuring eight of the best male wrestlers on the blue brand. Those matches are:
* Randy Orton vs. The Miz
* Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams
* Damian Priest vs. Solo Sikoa
* Sami Zayn vs. Ilja Dragunov
For Randy Orton, it will be his first match since October, so he will have to show that he is not rusty from such a long layoff. For the second week in a row, Randy Orton dropped The Miz with an RKO, so Miz will get a chance for revenge.
The winners of those matches will face off in a Fatal 4-Way Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24th in Montreal, which is Sami Zayn’s hometown.
Whoever wins that match at Saturday Night’s Main Event will go on to the Royal Rumble on January 31st in Riyadh to challenge the Undisputed WWE Champion for the biggest prize on SmackDown.
WWE Championship Changes Hands On SmackDown In Berlin
In the main event of SmackDown in Berlin, Drew McIntyre beat Cody Rhodes in a 3 Stages of Hell Match to become a 4-time WWE World Champion, but the Scottish Warrior didn’t do it alone.
It was about 30 minutes into the WWE Championship match when Rhodes and McIntyre were crotched on the top rope with the ropes hitting their groins. After the fall, McIntyre reached the cage door, but somebody was there to knock referee Charles Robinson down. It was somebody in a mask and a hood covering his face. It was Jacob Fatu!
Fatu attacked Drew with punches. The fans cheered because they remembered a few months back, when Fatu was attacked, and assumed Drew did it. Cody went over to Fatu to try to get him to stop, so Fatu punched Cody repeatedly, and they exchanged punches. As that was going on, McIntyre fell out of the door, and he landed on the floor to become the Undisputed WWE Champion!
This means at the Royal Rumble, whoever wins the 8-man tournament that will end at Saturday Night’s Main Event will go on to face Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
