WWE Adds Stipulation To Ronda Rousey-Shayna Baszler Match At SummerSlam

The big battle between Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler will not be just any sort of regular wrestling match.

After many years of working together, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler now find themselves on opposite sides of the ring. Their friendship fell apart after Money in the Bank when Baszler betrayed Rousey, which cost the two women their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Last week on RAW, Rousey and Baszler had another heated exchange and shortly afterwards the match between them was made official by WWE. But more was added to the situation this week following another hype video that gave much more depth and context to this feud and why it’s so personal.

A video was shown on the July 31st episode of RAW that showed both women giving their thoughts on the rivalry. Rousey compared herself to an ancient Roman emperor whose only friend during his darkest days was a stableboy who helped him get through his struggles, only to later demand so much from the emperor that he later betrayed and killed him.

Baszler, meanwhile still feels resentment for being Rousey’s friend and getting so little out of it, to the point that she believed that Rousey only allows people to live for free at her house so that she can beat them up.

The video concluded with both men tearing up over their shattered friendship but Baszler had the final segment. In those closing seconds, Baszler shared two key details. First, that her bout with Rousey wasn’t going to be a match but a fight.

And second, Rousey’s daughter, who is Baszler’s goddaughter, is going to grow up hating Baszler over what she is going to do to her mother at SummerSlam.

Moments later, WWE commentators confirmed that the bout will be fought under Mixed Martial Arts rules. Exact details on what this means have yet to be confirmed, though it’s likely that everything will emerge in the coming days or on the eve of the match itself.
