WWE May Retire World Heavyweight Title In Shocking Scenario
The current version of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was introduced two years ago.
The title was held by only five superstars, with Gunther being the only one to capture it twice. The Ring General would now put it on the line against the returning Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
On a recent episode of The Wrestling Time Machine, NWA Hall of Famer Bill Apter discussed the upcoming clash between Da Man and the current World Heavyweight Champion. He predicted that Seth Rollins would cash in his Money in the Bank contract on Goldberg after the latter dethrones Gunther to win the title.
The legendary journalist claimed it could also end in a massive, unexpected twist, with the WWE Hall of Famer winning the title in his final match and retiring the championship with him.
I still am predicting, even though it’s very predictable, that somehow Goldberg is going to win and Seth Rollins is gonna cash in and take that championship that night. It’s on NBC, on Saturday Night’s Main Event, and everybody’s gonna be talking about it.
Michael Cole asked Goldberg, ‘If you win the belt, is this gonna be your final match?’ And he never really gave a true answer to that. He can retire the belt.
Goldberg Confirmed He Won’t Wrestle Again After Final WWE Match
While wrestling retirements are not always final, Goldberg recently claimed his retirement would be. In a recent interview with CarCast, the WWE Hall of Famer disclosed that he currently has many responsibilities in his personal life.
The former Universal Champion added that he would have the time to focus on them after his match with Gunther because he would step away from wrestling.
I’ve a life to live. I have a family and I have responsibilities. You know there’s a lot you got to do at one point. I don’t have anyone helping anymore. I’ve got my agents, but I don’t have assistance, and I don’t have anybody working under the roof other than myself. It’s tough to be able to fit everything in. But there will be a lull after this match. I won’t be wrestling anymore.
