Is WWE still producing a new documentary on Vince McMahon?

On August 29th it was announced that the long-discussed Vince McMahon documentary has a release date. The six-part series will premiere on Netflix on September 25th.

The documentary was first discussed in 2020, and at the time Nick Khan suggested the project would be co-produced by WWE Studios. However, it seems that won’t be the case. According to John Pollock and Brandon Thurston, WWE will not be involved.

Wrestlenomics and POST Wrestling can report that WWE will not be listed as a producer on the series, according to a person familiar with the project.

It should be noted that neither Janel Grant nor her team were interviewed for the documentary.

In January 2024, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. The lawsuit contained allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking.

Documentary Makers Promise Behind The Curtain Look At Vince McMahon

Speaking in a recent interview about the series, director and executive Chris Smith said that the series will offer a “rich and nuanced” look at the disgraced former WWE boss.

“The goal behind ‘Mr. McMahon’ was to pull back the curtain and reveal the true Vince McMahon, obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world,” he said. “Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations.

The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”

Bill Simmons has also been confirmed as an executive producer on the documentary. The writer and podcaster famously worked on HBO’s Andre The Giant documentary in 2018.
