WWE Rejected Becky Lynch’s WrestleMania Request

Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch had a slightly unusual request denied by WWE.

Heading into WrestleMania 36 Becky Lynch was flying high. The Man had main-evented the event the year before, winning both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles, and while she had lost the title belonging to the blue brand, she was still a force to be reckoned with.

Although she was still on top, Lynch had a new challenger in the form of Shayna Baszler who had dominated the Elimination Chamber to book herself a shot at the title. However, come WrestleMania it was Lynch who emerged victorious, even if she didn’t actually want to.

In her upcoming book Becky Lynch: The Man, Lynch said she felt it was time for a change as she was wary of becoming stale.

“I had recommended that she take the title from me at WrestleMania… I had been a babyface champion for so long and could feel the audience beginning to turn on me. I had gone from underdog to top dog and such a situation can’t overstay its welcome.”

With the division in need of new stars, Lynch pitched to lose to Baszler, but her plan was turned down. As it turned out, Lynch would vacate the title just weeks later after announcing she was pregnant.

“We needed to make more female contenders and what better way to do that than having them win the title on the grandest stage of them all? Everyone wins. Except me, whose request was denied. I wanted to lose, but I would actually win, so it was a loss… Sigh. Wrestling is confusing.”

Becky Lynch Comments On Vince McMahon Allegations

Fast forward to WrestleMania 40 and The Man is set to challenge Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Title after winning big at Elimination Chamber. Lynch remains one of the most prominent female stars in the industry and has been open about the barriers that needed breaking down within WWE for her to succeed.

During a recent interview, Becky Lynch discussed the allegations made against Vince McMahon. Lynch described the allegations as “horrible,” adding they’re tough to reconcile with her own experiences within the company.
