WWE’s Current Position On Re-Signing 4-Time World Champion Revealed
Alberto El Patron’s AAA departure sparks WWE return rumors.
The wrestling world has been buzzing following Alberto’s recent exit from AAA. After losing both his championship loss to El Hijo del Vikingo in June and then a recent high-stakes match against El Mesías with a stipulation stating he must leave the promotion, reports confirm former Alberto Del Rio is officially done with AAA.
This departure instantly fueled speculation among fans over whether the four-time world champion might be headed back to the Stamford-based promotion. Given his name recognition and past successes, the possibility seemed plausible to many, especially as WWE’s acquisition of AAA intensified curiosity about Alberto’s future.
WWE’s Stance On Alberto El Patron Remains Unchanged
Despite ongoing rumors, the Stamford-based company is currently showing no interest in bringing El Patron back to the company. According to Fightful Select, the company’s stance is clear that World Wrestling Entertainment has no interest in bringing erstwhile Alberto Del Rio back to the company, and their position remains the same to this day.
This statement echoes what company officials said months ago, shortly after WWE acquired AAA. Even with his recent free-agent status, higher-ups are maintaining the distance, firmly stating there are no plans to sign the former champion.
The Mexican star’s complicated history with the Triple H-led company may play a part in the company’s decision. His past tenure was marked by on-screen success, but also controversy away from the ring. Despite his skills and charismatic presence, there is currently no sign of a new contract offer from WWE.
He made a significant mark during his WWE years, claiming four major world championships (2 WWE Championship reigns and 2 World Heavyweight Championship reigns). He won the 2011 Royal Rumble and also took home the Money in the Bank briefcase in the same year.
Per Fightful Select, Alberto Del Rio’s status with #WWE has not changed, even after his exile from #AAA on July 25. That night, he lost a brutal match to El Mesias. The match stipulation forced him out of AAA, closing the chapter on what had once been a dominant return run.
