WWE To “Re-Evaluate Current Plans” For Drew McIntyre

What’s next for Drew McIntyre?

Drew McIntyre was “screaming and cursing” backstage following his elimination from the Royal Rumble. McIntyre was said to be shouting about the fact that “someone had to get their moves in” at the expense of some of the stories being told in the bout. It was also mentioned that something “went wrong” with McIntyre’s elimination.

It was later revealed that the person who sparked the outburst was LA Knight. Less than a week after the incident, the pair met in the ring on SmackDown as part of a Triple Threat Match also involving Jey Uso.

It was noted after the match that WWE had no concern about Drew McIntyre and LA Knight working together.

While McIntyre’s annoyance with Knight grabbed the headlines, it was revealed that he’s scheduled to face Damian Priest at WrestleMania. Priest eliminating the star from the Rumble was meant to lay the groundwork for a feud running into the spectacular.

However, the plans haven’t gone down well with many fans on social media who haven’t been shy about making their feelings known.

WWE Could Change Drew McIntyre Plans

Despite that lack of concern about McIntyre and Knight working together, that doesn’t mean the Scottish star’s frustration and perhaps more interestingly fan frustration, has gone unnoticed. As reported by Sportskeeda’s Dr. Chris Featherstone, due to the online Backlash regarding plans for McIntyre at WrestleMania, the company could be looking to make some changes.

Sources within WWE have informed me that the online backlash of Drew McIntyre’s potential WrestleMania opponent has opened up internal discussions to reevaluate current plans.

According to an earlier report, Drew McIntyre was moved to SmackDown in order to face Cody Rhodes. The report claimed that a storyline between the pair had been planned in 20223, but ended up being shelved.

It was believed McIntyre would initially square off with Damian Priest before eventually meeting the American Nightmare.

These reports come after WWE changed Charlotte Flair’s creative after a similar online backlash. The move starkly contrasts the company’s approach under the guidance of Vince McMahon, who actively continued storylines fans hated to spite them.
