WWE Raw Star Has Expiring Contract This Summer
A veteran wrestler on WWE’s Raw brand could depart the company due to a contract issue.
There are several WWE superstars who signed five-year deals in 2019 because that was the year when the company signed five-year television deals for Raw & Smackdown. It also happened to be the year that All Elite Wrestling launched as a company.
Some of the wrestlers with deals that were set to expire this year have re-signed like Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Damian Priest, and others while Seth’s wife Becky Lynch has an expiring deal that is likely going to see her take an extended absence from the company.
Another WWE veteran wrestler Ricochet has a deal that is set to expire this summer, according to Fightful Select and PWN’s Viper. It was mentioned in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter a few years ago that Ricochet also signed a five-year deal with WWE in 2019.
If Ricochet lets his contract expire without signing a new one, he is expected to get “heavy interest heavy interest from virtually every company able to afford his services.”
In addition to being a part of the WWE Raw roster, Ricochet is also the WWE Speed Champion. Ricochet’s fiance Samantha Irvin is the Raw ring announcer as well.
Will Ospreay Is Frustrated By How WWE Uses Ricochet
Even though Ricochet is a former WWE Intercontinental and United States Champion, some people think he is used poorly by the company. AEW’s Will Ospreay, who had some memorable matches with Ricochet before they worked for bigger companies, spoke to Comic Book recently about how appalling it is that Ricochet isn’t doing more.
“I keep up with him all the time and sometimes I get a little bit sad about it. I hope he’s not sad and I hope he’s real happy. I keep up with him as much as I can, but I feel like people are forgetting who Ricochet was once upon a time All of these high-flyers that you see, and myself included, we all took inspiration from Pac and Ricochet.
The fact that they only value his time for under five minutes is appalling to me. I just want people to remember who he is. If you go and look at 2012-2013 Dragon Gate Ricochet, he was untouchable at the time.
When it came to this generation of high-flyers, he was the greatest. He’s the greatest high-flyer ever. I know it sounds weird, but I do include put him on the same level as Rey Mysterio.”
Ricochet was in action on WWE Raw this past Monday against Ilja Dragunov. However, the match didn’t end well because Bron Breakker ran into the ring and gave Ricochet a Spear leading to a disqualification finish. It was the second week in a row where Ricochet got attacked by Breakker.
