Nasty comments from wrestling fans online has led to a former champion in WWE announcing a break from social media.

Hulk Hogan passed away in the morning of July 24th due to a heart attack. While there had been reports of the WWE Hall of Famer having health issues, the news of his death was sudden to a lot of people.

Following Hogan’s death, there was extensive media coverage due to his massive impact in pro wrestling, as well as his complicated legacy, marked by the multiple controversies that had plagued his life.

Chelsea Green is a former WWE Women’s US Champion and Women’s Tag Team Champion who is one of the most entertaining women in the company. Green does a fantastic job of playing a “President” character who thinks highly of herself and often ends up getting beaten up or losing matches because of her immense ego.

After doing an interview with CBS News about Hogan, Green faced significant backlash on social media from fans who were upset that she praised Hogan without addressing his racist comments and other controversies in his life. In response, Green took to X/Twitter on Friday morning to share a message with fans, explaining her role as a WWE superstar.

“A significant part of my role at @WWE involves engaging w the public & responding to questions, often on live platforms. Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live tv. Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period. If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated. I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn.

ILY my PatriHOTS, President Chelsea”

Death Threats Led To WWE’s Chelsea Green Announcing A Social Media Break

On WWE SmackDown in Cleveland, Green lost a short match to Jade Cargill. After the match, Green’s “Secret Hervice” allies Piper Niven and Alba Fyre attacked Cargill, so Jade’s SummerSlam opponent Tiffany Stratton made the save. After the save, Cargill held the WWE Women’s Title, which belonged to Stratton, who took it back. It was a way to promote the Cargill-Stratton match at SummerSlam.

Green went on X/Twitter on Friday evening to announce that she was taking a break from social media due to name-calling and death threats.

I’ve tried to keep my page positive and comedic, but today, a lot changed… and it hit harder than I expected. The name calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts.
Social media was supposed to be a fun place and it hasn’t been for a while. It’s been overwhelming and I need to step away for a little bit.

Love my PatriHOTS!
