WWE Quietly Ended Successful Stable
A stable that was once heavily featured in WWE is essentially no more.
Damage CTRL was a women’s only stable that began at SummerSlam 2022 when Bayley returned after missing a year due to injury, and she wasn’t alone because Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky (who used to be known as Io Shirai) were by her side.
The trio of Bayley, Kai, and Sky were heels who had success in the tag team ranks since Kai and Sky were Women’s Tag Team Champions together. Bayley also had a lengthy feud with Bianca Belair as well.
In late 2023, Damage CTRL got even stronger by adding former Women’s Champion Asuka and Kairi Sane to the group. Asuka and Sane also held the Women’s Tag Team Titles together.
By early 2024, Bayley had won the Women’s Royal Rumble while Sky was the WWE Women’s Champion after cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase. Bayley beat Sky for the WWE Women’s Title at WrestleMania 40 to close that chapter of the group.
After Bayley was taken out of Damage CTRL, the group continued with Sky, Kai, Asuka, and Sane. However, in recent months, they were not together due to Asuka being out for a year with an injury; Kai was released in early May, Sane was injured, and it was just Sky, who is the Women’s World Champion.
WWE Quietly Disbanded Damage CTRL
Some WWE fans may wonder if Damage CTRL will be addressed on television, but it appears unlikely. According to Fightful Select, WWE ended the group. An internal decision was made in early May when Kai was released, and the remaining members of the group were no longer introduced as “representing Damage CTRL.”
Former WWE Women’s Champion Asuka is returning to the ring on the June 16th Raw as part of a Queen of the Ring qualifying match. Fightful asked if the group had any life left, but they were told Damage CTRL likely won’t be part of Asuka’s return.
It was added by Fightful that the women in the group could team up again in the future, and the name could be revived in the future, but for now, Damage CTRL is done.
