WWE Praised For John Cena’s Final Raw Appearance
The fans got what they wanted from John Cena in his final match on Raw as a WWE superstar.
There was a lot of hype going into John Cena’s final episode on WWE Monday Night Raw as an active superstar. The November 17th event took place at the “World’s Most Famous Arena,” Madison Square Garden in New York City, and the fans were ready to cheer loudly for Cena as soon as the show began.
After Cena celebrated his Intercontinental Title win over Dominik Mysterio from one week prior, Dirty Dom showed up to interrupt. The two men agreed to have an Intercontinental Title match at Survivor Series in San Diego, which is where Dom is fun.
The Cena-Dominik argument led to some friends showing up, so a tag team match was made with The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor & JD McDonagh teaming up against Cena and two veteran friends who have been foes in the past, Rey Mysterio & Sheamus.
During the match, Rey and Sheamus took turns as the faces in peril before Cena finally got the hot tag. The popular babyface trio had some fun moments when they did Sheamus’ ten forearms to the chest together, and they also did Cena’s “Five Knuckle Shuffle” fist drop in unison as well.
Rey Mysterio hit a double 619 on Balor & McDonagh, Sheamus hit a Brogue Kick on Balor, and Cena finished off McDonagh with the Attitude Adjustment for the pinfall win. Dominik had rolled out of the ring to avoid a further attack.
Following his final match on Raw, John Cena celebrated with his pals Sheamus and Rey Mysterio. They were amazed at how many fans were packed into the building. Cena spoke into the camera, saying, “Monday Night Raw, that’s all she wrote. I love you. Thank you.”
WWE Booked John Cena’s Last Raw Appearance Perfectly
For most WWE shows, some critics will say that they should have done this or that differently. When it comes to John Cena’s final Raw appearance, legendary wrestling manager and booker Jim Cornette, who actually booked Cena 25 years ago when he was a rookie in WWE developmental territory OVW, praised the booking on his Jim Cornette Drive Thru podcast.
“It was a spotshow match and the fans loved it. That’s exactly what they wanted to see. They didn’t need to do anything different. And Dominik was outside the ring when the pinfall was made. So they couldn’t have done that much better.
You could tell this was what the people in New York viewed as a big deal and came to see. You had to make them as happy as possible. So, the right move here.”
Jim Cornette also believes that John Cena shouldn’t lose the Intercontinental Title back to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series, which will be Cena’s second-to-last match before his last match on December 13th at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
