WWE Plans For Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 42 Revealed

Roman Reigns WWE

Roman Reigns could be facing a familiar opponent at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.

On the final episode of WWE Monday Night Raw before Survivor Series on November 24th, Roman Reigns shared the ring with the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and the World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.

Those three men will team up in the Men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, along with Roman’s cousins, The Usos.

Reigns said he didn’t care if it was Punk or Cody’s team, nor did it matter. Reigns said that he didn’t like either of them. Reigns said he hates Paul Heyman and The Vision, so that’s his word to them and his promise – it’s that he hates them more than he hates Punk and Rhodes.

At the end of his speech, Reigns said that, since we’re being honest, the title would look so much better on his shoulder. That’s when Reigns left. Punk asked if Reigns was talking to him or Cody. Reigns said (without a microphone) that he’ll let them figure it out.

Roman Reigns Likely To Be Challenging For Gold At WrestleMania

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE’s original plan for Roman Reigns was to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42, but that’s off the table due to Rollins being out of action with a left shoulder injury.

The originally planned main event for WrestleMania 42 was Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins, but with Rollins injured, the new plan is Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, or whoever is champion come Mania.

Every key booking decision at this point for the top few people in the company do involve building matches both tentatively planned for both WrestleMania in Las Vegas in 2026 and for the 2027 show in Saudi Arabia.

We don’t know what the matches are, past a confirmation of what we already knew which was Reigns vs. Rollins was scheduled as the night two main event for 2026.

The Reigns hint regarding challenging either Rhodes or Punk, (or someone else if either of those titles change hands first) is the current planned direction still as the main event.

There will almost surely be more hints in War Games with Reigns, Rhodes and Punk all on the same team.

Regarding Rhodes, Roman Reigns has a long history with him since Reigns beat him at WrestleMania 39 to retain the WWE Championship. A year later at WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock beat Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the WrestleMania 40 Saturday main event. However, Rhodes finally beat Reigns to become WWE Champion on WrestleMania 40 Sunday. If they had another WrestleMania match at WM42 in Las Vegas, it would be their fourth WrestleMania match.

CM Punk and Roman Reigns were in the WrestleMania 41 Saturday main event earlier this year, along with Seth Rollins. It was not a title match, but it was a memorable bout in which Paul Heyman turned on Punk and Reigns, siding with Rollins, who won. The Heyman/Rollins alliance led to the formation of a new stable, The Vision.

As always, when it comes to WrestleMania plans this far out, plans can change and often do change. However, it is notable that WWE had planned to have Reigns face Rollins in a singles match at WrestleMania for the first time, and now it’s off the table.
