WWE Creative Plans In Chaos After Title Change Botch
One WWE championship change definitely was not supposed to happen.
With John Cena’s retirement from WWE now in the rear-view mirror, the company was once again showcasing the future superstars of the company on the November 16th edition of NXT.
TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater might have lost the fall in a tag team match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but he had the last laugh on NXT when he became the number one contender for the NXT Championship. The Youngest In Charge defeated Dion Lennox, Joe Hendry, and Myles Borne in a four-way match to book that title shot with Oba Femi.
However, earlier in the night, there was an even bigger shock, and that’s because it was not supposed to happen.
Blake Monroe Loses WWE Title Via Botch
Thea Hail challenged Blake Monroe for the NXT Women’s North American Championship in a match that many expected to be a routine title defence for Monroe. However, during a pinfall attempt by Hail, Monroe simply didn’t kick out, instead getting her hand off the mat instead of her shoulder and the referee counted the fall. This gave the win and the title to a shocked Thea Hail. Although there was quite a delay in Hail’s music playing, indicating she wasn’t supposed to win.
Fightful Select has confirmed that the finish of the match was a botch, and Thea Hail was not meant to become champion. Creative plans had to be changed on the fly as there was creative specifically planned for Hail, not as a champion. This is said to have had a knock-on effect for several NXT stars and their creative that was set into the new year.
