Scrapped Major WWE Plans For Top Faction Finally Revealed
WWE had major plans for a top faction called The Nexus.
Nexus was a villainous faction formed in mid-2010, made up of the rookies from NXT Season 1 and led by Wade Barrett. The faction spent the summer of 2010 terrorizing the Raw roster, repeatedly targeting John Cena and forcing management to give them contracts and big-match opportunities.
What Did WWE Have In Store For The Nexus?
David Otunga, a member of Nexus, recently revealed on his official YouTube channel that WWE had planned a significant angle for the group that was going to shape their future. He was supposed to challenge Barrett for the leadership of the group and later kick him out. But the plans never materialized.
This time, we hadn’t specifically been told what the long-term plan was for Nexus. But we were told like broad strokes that basically this was going to build all of us into major superstars going forward.
And it was alluded to that eventually Wade and I were going to fight over the group, and I was gonna kick Wade out of the group, lead Nexus. But what it was building to was Wade and I one-on-one because it was gonna circle back to the finale of NXT, where you know he beat me, and I was runner-up.
Although we never had a singles match, we had a triple threat. So this was gonna be where I was able to get my revenge, or at least we were gonna have our one-on-one standoff, so we didn’t know when that was gonna happen, but it was indicated to me that was eventually where the story was going.β [1:08 – 2:00]
At SummerSlam 2010, Nexus lost a major 7βonβ7 elimination match to Team WWE, led by Cena, which allegedly damaged their momentum and ultimately led to the group’s downfall.
