WWE Plans For Dealing With Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Injuries

Kevin Owens Sami Zayn WWE Tag Team Champions

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will keep hold of the WWE Tag Team Titles.

With both Owens and Zayn dealing with injuries, the future of their reign as Tag Team Champions looked uncertain, with concerns that the titles would have to be relinquished.

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Zayn was seen being taken out by JD McDonagh on Raw because of a swollen elbow, which is being diagnosed as a bursa sac infection. Partner Owens has also been written off of TV by The Judgment Day to allow his injury to heal, which is a broken rib. The update ends by stating that there are no plans to take the titles off of the Undisputed Tag Team Champions.

The update is a positive one for the champions, as the future looked uncertain for both the Men’s and Women’s Tag Titles following the injuries sustained to Owens, Zayn and Sonya Deville.

Kevin Owens And Sami Zayn’s History In WWE

From the moment they arrived in the company, Owens and Zayn have frequently shared the ring together as either tag team partners or opponents. Moments after Zayn won the NXT Championship, Owens would attack his former best friend and was the one to defeat Zayn for the title. Zayn would get his vengeance at the 2016 Royal Rumble, being a surprise entrant and eliminating Owens from the Battle Royal.

The two former NXT Champions would continue to feud on and off until Zayn came to the aid of Owens during The Prize Fighter’s Hell in a Cell match with Shane McMahon, dragging Owens off of the announce table at the last second as McMahon plummeted from the top of the cage.

Upon Zayn joining The Bloodline and being named an Honorary Uce, Owens repeatedly warned his best friends about what he was getting himself into, which Zayn would ignore. Following en expulsion from the group by Roman Reigns, the duo would reunite as a team at WrestleMania 39, dethroning The Usos in the main event of night 1 to become the new Tag Team Champions.
