WWE Planning Steel Cage Match At SummerSlam
A huge grudge match is being planned for WWE SummerSlam in New Jersey.
The United States Championship changed hands at WWE Night of Champions when Solo Sikoa beat Jacob Fatu to put an end to Fatu’s reign as champion.
It wasn’t a clean win for Solo, as he received help from JC Mateo and Tonga Loa during the match. It was also the debut of Tala Tonga, who was known as Hikuleo in New Japan. Tala Tonga attacked Fatu with a Chokeslam onto the commentary table. The distracted referee never saw it.
After Fatu was attacked outside the ring, Solo capitalized on the ring with a Samoan Spike for the pinfall win. It was Solo’s first time winning a singles title on the WWE main roster. Solo was the NXT North American Champion earlier in his career in NXT.
In the weeks that have followed Night of Champions, the cousin rivalry between Solo and Jacob has continued. Jimmy Uso has been there to help Solo, but they are still outnumbered against Solo’s MFT (My Family Tree) group of four.
Solo Sikoa’s Rivalry With Jacob Fatu To Continue At WWE SummerSlam
The next WWE PLE is SummerSlam on August 2 and 3, with several big matches already announced. On X/Twitter, Wrestlevotes is reporting that WWE is planning a Steel Cage Match between US Champion Solo Sikoa and former champion Jacob Fatu at SummerSlam.
A Steel Cage Match makes sense in the storyline because the idea behind a cage is that nobody can interfere in the match. Since Solo only beat Fatu because of help, a Steel Cage Match will allow WWE to present a match where Fatu could face Solo without interference.
The current WWE SummerSlam lineup looks like this.
- WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
- Women’s World Championship: Naomi (c) vs. Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley
- World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
- Randy Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul
- WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill
- Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria
You can watch SummerSlam on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, streaming live at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix everywhere else.
