WWE Planning Big Move For John Cena’s Final Match
WWE is looking to make a big change to its own calendar to put John Cena’s final match up against AEW.
Publicly, WWE might not acknowledge AEW as competition, but their approach to their calendar might say otherwise.
WWE sandwiched three shows on the same weekend as AEW’s first US stadium show in July, with Tony Khan forced to move his show to the afternoon to avoid going head-to-head with Goldberg’s final wrestling match against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
For the first time ever, a WWE main roster PLE will go head-to-head with an AEW PPV in September, where Brock Lesnar’s return match is expected to headline a show on the same night as All Out in Toronto.
But things are set to get even worse for Tony Khan in that regard, with WWE expected to move one of their shows so John Cena’s final match will counter-program AEW’s final 2025 PPV.
John Cena’s Career Ends On The Same Night As Worlds End?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that WWE wants to move Saturday Night’s Main Event from the middle of December to the end of that month so that John Cena’s last match can go head-to-head with AEW Worlds End on pay-per-view:
Certainly, the story going around is that [WWE] wants to move from December 13th to December 27th. Given all the actions that have been done, of course, they want to. There is so much going on that will probably be breaking in the next couple of months when it comes to different things.
John Cena Set For Brock Lesnar Showdown
While it remains unknown who John Cena’s last opponent will be, it seems he’s on a collision course with Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate returned to WWE at SummerSlam, taking out Cena moments after he lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes.
Before Cena is expected to get in the ring with Lesnar, the 17-time world champion will take on Logan Paul at Clash In Paris on August 31st.
