WWE Planned To Rename WrestleMania, Proposed Name Revealed

WrestleMania 43 WWE Saudi Arabia Riyadh

Could WWE really have planned to change the name of its longest-running major show, WrestleMania?

A wrestling revolution began in 1985 when Vince McMahon went all in with WrestleMania. The first edition of the event was headlined by Hulk Hogan and Mr T defeating Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff in a tag team match. Since then, WrestleMania has become an entertainment phenomenon, filling stadiums all over North America every year.

In 2027, for the very first time, WrestleMania will head to foreign shores as it is set to take place in Saudi Arabia. WWE’s new owners are intent on scraping every dollar they can for their major shows, and there’s nowhere on earth that more dollars are on offer than Saudi Arabia.

With fans worrying about possible changes to WWE’s Showcase of the Immortals to please the paymasters, it seems things almost took a drastic change when Vince McMahon was still in charge.

WWE Wanted To Take The Wrestling Out Of WrestleMania?

Speaking on The Stevie Richards Show, the former WWE star revealed that under Vince McMahon’s reign, WrestleMania almost lost a key part of its name:

Here’s an Easter egg. During the Vince era, they wanted to rename WrestleMania “Mania”. I know there was a secondary show WWF Mania. They wanted to take the wrestling out of it because they felt the wrestling put too much of a stigma on the show. What the hell did you think you were gonna show up and see? A bunch of maniacs? But yeah, they wanted to take the Wrestle out of WrestleMania because it was “too wrestling”.
