Why WWE’s Paul Heyman Believes Best Career Moment Hasn’t Happened Yet
Paul Heyman has done it all in pro wrestling, yet the WWE Hall of Famer had a unique response when asked about his career highlights.
At the 2024 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in Philadelphia, the “Wise Man” Paul Heyman was the headline act in the city where he made a lasting impact on the pro wrestling business. After all, Philadelphia was where Heyman was the man in charge of ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling).
In addition to running ECW, Heyman’s legendary career in pro wrestling also saw him start as a photographer, then he became a manager and a household name in WCW as Paul E. Dangerously. After ECW ended in 2001, Heyman’s WWE run started as an announcer, a manager, an advocate, a special counsel, and somebody who has been incredibly valuable behind the scenes as well.
As an on-screen performer, Heyman has been paired with some of the biggest names in wrestling history like Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, and Roman Reigns to name a few. Heyman has also been ringside for multiple WrestleMania main events and when Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
During an interview with WWE’s Logan Paul on the ImPaulsive podcast, they discussed Heyman’s career and big moments. According to the Wise Man, the best is yet to come.
“All of it, the whole thing and the best moment hasn’t happened yet, because if I think that it has I’d be off doing other things. I’d be writing, producing, directing movies. I’d be creating. I’d try to compete with Taylor Sheridan and put something on Netflix that will compete with what he has over on Paramount Plus with Landman and Yellowstone. I would take on some other genres.
I would take some friends of mine in the music business and get into a studio and say I’ll pay for the studio time, let’s just jam. Let’s see if I can do the Rick Rubin and produce, even though I have no musical understanding whatsoever, I would do something else, all of it. And all of it with the expectation of we can top this tomorrow and two days from now, we can top tomorrow.”
Paul Heyman Does Have Some Moments That Stand Out, Especially Involving ECW
The interview continued with Heyman admitting there are things in pro wrestling that stand out to him as incredible moments.
“I mean, there are easy answers. ECW itself, getting on pay-per-view for ECW, the first ECW pay-per-view, the last ECW pay-per-view, the revival of ECW in 2005 and that One Night Stand in the entire show, Brock Lesnar conquering the Undertaker’s streak.”
In the same interview, Paul Heyman revealed that he intentionally “ate like s**t” for a week, barely slept, and didn’t shave going into the June 28, 2024 edition of Smackdown in Madison Square Garden. That was the night when Solo Sikoa and his version of The Bloodline put Heyman through the commentary table in Heyman’s hometown. It’s an example of how dedicated Heyman is as a performer and why he is a Hall of Famer for many reasons.
