WWE “Open Minded” About Singles Run For Tag Team Star
Two WWE stars have impressed backstage in recent weeks and it could lead to more singles opportunities for a tag team specialist.
Since coming to WWE in 2018, the Viking Raiders Erik and Ivar have only been a part of a handful of singles matches as they focused on tag team success in the company. The team captured the NXT Tag Team Championship when known as the War Raiders in January 2019 and by the end of that same year, the duo had morphed into their Viking personas on the main roster and held the Raw Tag Team Championship.
In recent weeks, Ivar has been competing in singles matches with Erik sidelined due to injury. Ivar has taken on both Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston of The New Day on Raw in recent weeks and on the 9th of October edition of the show, he defeated Kingston in a Viking Rules match.
Ivar’s performances have impressed in WWE
Now Fightful Select has reported that the performances of both Ivar and Kofi Kingston have not gone unnoticed in WWE in recent weeks, with both stars receiving “high marks” in the company. A two-out-of-three falls match had been scheduled on the 18th of September edition of Raw between The Viking Raiders and The New Day but the injury to Erik prevented that from happening. Instead, Ivar and Kingston went one-on-one for over 13 minutes with Kingston winning that bout.
A WWE producer is said to have noted that Ivar hadn’t wrestled a singles match on WWE television that had gone over ten minutes in almost five years and his performance impressed many backstage. It was also noted that WWE is staying open-minded about using Ivar in a singles capacity following his run of impressive performances.
