Reportedly, a current champion has left a lasting impression on WWE executives.

Bodyslam.net claims that the company’s higher-ups were “unbelievably impressed” by Oba Femi’s performance at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII.

At NXT No Mercy in September, Femi lost the NXT Championship to Ricky Saints. There were reports of him being main roster-bound.

After weeks of no-shows on any brand, the 27-year-old returned on the company’s developmental brand on the November 11 episode.

During the taping’s main event, Saints defended his title against Trick Williams in a Last Man Standing match.

The two superstars put on a premium live event-quality match, earning cheers from the crowd in attendance at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

Oba Femi subsequently challenged Ricky Saints for the title, with their match set up for NXT Deadline with a cherry on top: the winner would face Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

In an intense back-and-forth bout, The Ruler overcame The Absolute One to reclaim his title.

Oba Femi Vignettes Air On WWE Main Roster Shows

As a result of his victory at Deadline, Oba Femi faced the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Their fight was on the same card as John Cena’s final wrestling match against Gunther. Femi vs. Rhodes ended in a No Contest after Drew McIntyre interfered and attacked The American Nightmare.

The Nigerian wrestler put on an impressive show against the 40-year-old, even leaving the latter bleeding from his right ear.

Bodyslam reported that the company’s officials view Femi on par with Bron Breakker, who is set to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship on the January 5 episode of Raw.

If Bron’s current push and trajectory tells you anything, it’s that Oba Femi will be a special, special case and main event player for years to come, the report stated. [H/T WrestlingNews.co]

Oba Femi was hired by WWE in 2021 as part of the Next In Line program.
