WWE Offered Hip Hop Star “Permanent Role As A Wrestler”
WWE had big plans for a major celebrity.
In 2024, Hip Hop star Sexyy Red appeared on WWE television on multiple occasions, notably on Raw in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, and as the host of NXT Battleground. On an earlier episode of NXT, Red also unveiled the brand-new Women’s North American Title.
In one infamous moment, footage even emerged of Sexyy Red twerking with Shawn Michaels backstage.
However, it seems the company had much bigger plans for the “Pound Town” star.
WWE Offered Deal To Sexyy Red
While profiling Red for Dazed, Thomas Hobbs noted that WWE offered the star a permanent spot on the roster as a wrestler, but she turned it down.
“She actually got offered a permanent role as a wrestler in WWE, but couldn’t find the time to train properly so settled for a cameo instead. Regardless of what the future holds, she says the wrestling world is a good analogy for how to handle the myriad pressures that come with being a popular recording artist.”
Red added that she feels the world of rap and wrestling are very similar.
“Rapping and wrestling are pretty much the same,” she explains. “It’s not quite acting, but it’s kind of acting too, right? Because when we go home and take off all our jewels and gold and remove the costumes we wear, we then have to go right back to reality with our families.”
WWE has embraced celebrity culture more than ever in 2025, with IShowSpeed making an appearance in the men’s Royal Rumble match. Meanwhile, Bad Bunny has admitted he wants to wrestle again after defeating Damian Priest at Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico.
