WWE NXT Takeover Toronto Lineup for August 10 (Includes Spoilers)
Here’s the expected lineup for NXT Takeover Toronto on Saturday, August 10th, which is one night before SummerSlam takes place.
The lineup comes from the NXT tapings from last week with more info provided by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer as well. They taped nearly two months of programming over the course of two days last week, so that’s why the Takeover Toronto crowd is already known. Here’s the lineup.
NXT Championship: Adam Cole (c) vs. Johnny Gargano
NXT North American Championship: Velveteen Dream (c) vs. Pete Dunne vs. Roderick Strong
NXT Tag Team Championships: Street Profits – Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins (c) vs. The Undisputed Era – Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish
NXT Women’s Championship: Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Mia Yim
Finals of the Breakout Star Tournament: Cameron Grimes vs. Jordan Myles
Grimes was previously known as Trevor Lee while Myles was known as ACH.
It was noted by Meltzer that Matt Riddle has a TV program with Killian Dain. They are not currently listed on the Takeover show at this point because Takeover events usually have five matches and as you can see above, there are five matches in place already. There’s also a belief in NXT that Riddle will spend a lot of time there with no rush to move him to the main roster, so that’s why Riddle isn’t in a title picture right now.
The reasoning for doing Cole vs. Gargano III, per Meltzer, is that NXT wanted it to be a trio of matches similar to the famed trio of matches between Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat for the NWA Title in 1989, which was 30 years ago. Considering both Cole vs. Gargano matches were five stars from me (and over five stars from Meltzer), I don’t think anybody should complain about Triple H booking that match one more time.
The weird thing to me is that Riddle beat Strong at the last Takeover, yet Riddle isn’t even on the card while Strong gets a NXT North American Title match. As I said above, Riddle is now feuding with Dain, but it’s just odd to ignore wins and losses, which is a problem on the main roster. They are better about it in NXT.
It’s a good lineup. I don’t think it’s as good as NXT Takeover New York in April, but almost every NXT Takeover is great and I expect this one will be too. I don’t have tickets yet, but I will likely be at Takeover Toronto in my Toronto Raptors NBA Championship gear, of course.
