WWE NXT Star Thinks They Had A 10-Star Match
A rising star on WWE’s NXT brand absolutely loved one of his PLE matches of 2024.
On the second episode WWE NXT TV in 2024 on January 9th, relative newcomer Oba Femi cashed in his NXT Breakout Tournament Winner contract on Dragon Lee and became the NXT North American Champion.
After six months of holding the NXT North American Title, Femi has had a firm grip on the title while impressive everybody who watches him. Femi has been NXT North American Champion for over 180 days even though he hasn’t even had more than 20 televised matches in his career.
The 26-year-old Femi signed with WWE in December 2001 after being a successful shot putter in college. In April 2023, Femi had his first televised match on the NXT TV show and has been a dominant force ever since.
At NXT Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania 40 weekend in Philadelphia, Femi successfully defended the NXT North American Title over Dijak and Josh Briggs in an incredible match. That match was rated ****1/4 (out of five) by yours truly while Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter rated it at ****1/2 as well.
While talking to The A Show, Femi spoke about why the match deserves the high praise it received while claiming it should be given ten stars.
“Personally, I think that’s a 10-star match. Let me tell you why. Because going into that one, there wasn’t too much buildup or history or anything like that. Just intrinsically, on its own, just a standalone, good match.”
“Now, can you imagine if we had seven, eight, nine weeks to tell a good story? That’s why I strongly believe it’s a 10-star match because it didn’t have any backbone or hind legs to stand on. Just, on its own, it’s a very, very good match.”
Oba Femi Says NXT North American Title Match Was Difficult Due To The Crowd
The Stand & Deliver triple threat might be considered a classic. Meanwhile, Femi felt like his triple threat match with Wes Lee & Joe Gacy at the Battleground PLE in June was a good learning experience for him.
“Probably the triple threat at Battleground [2024]. That was a very interesting crowd. If that whole event taught me anything, it’s that crowds get tired. Like that was an all-around solid card, but after the women’s ladder match, they checked out, because the women’s ladder match was especially so good. Like it didn’t matter how many times I caught Wes Lee with the Meteora. They were done.”
As for what’s next, Oba Femi will defend the NXT North American Title against Duke Hudson of Chase U on the June 17th edition of NXT. The match was set up earlier this week.
