WWE NXT Going To Famous Arena For AEW Head-To-Head
WWE has booked an arena with a special place in wrestling history for the next showdown between NXT and AEW.
The 2300 Arena in Philadelphia was better known as the ECW Arena throughout the 1990s. Since the revolutionary company folded in 2001, pro wrestling events have continued to be held in the legendary venue with the likes of TNA, NJPW, and Ring of Honor holding shows.
WWE also used the arena for an ECW-branded live event in 2006, and now the company is looking to return to the venue. To avoid clashing with election coverage, NXT moving from it’s usual Tuesday slot to Wednesday on November 6th. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that is the likely date for the developmental brand to use the 2300 Arena as they look to beat AEW in the ratings.
“WWE has a date booked for the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. While not confirmed, the belief is that it will be on 11/6, which would be the NXT TV tapings on a Wednesday, the day after the election. The fact there will be a show has been confirmed by many, just not the date.
“NXT will be on the unfamiliar night and I presume they’ll loaded up going head-to-head with AEW. It makes sense the idea of NXT from the ECW Arena for the first time will get enough buzz to help grow the audience in the attempt to beat AEW.”
The last time the two shows went head-to-head, NXT crushed AEW in the ratings as Dynamite hit a record low. However, at that time it was AEW that had moved from its regular night to a Tuesday.
