WWE Adds Specialty Match To NXT Battleground (Spoiler)

There is going to be more than one specialty match on the WWE NXT Battleground event taking place in Las Vegas.

One of the big matches already announced for the WWE NXT Battleground PLE in Las Vegas on June 9th will be a six-woman Ladder Match to crown the first-ever NXT Women’s North American Champion.

That’s not going to be the only special match on the show since there will also be a unique NXT Underground match at the UFC Apex Arena as well.

Following the May 14th edition of WWE NXT that saw Tony D’Angelo win the Heritage Cup from Charlie Dempsey, they taped the May 21st edition of the show also. The reason why they taped next week’s show is because of the King and Queen of the Ring PLE on May 25th which will require many WWE staff members to make the trip to Saudi Arabia.

One of the big matches at the NXT taping for May 21st is a tag team match with Natalya & Karmen Petrovic facing Shayna Baszler & Lola Vice. According to spoilers from Fightful Select, Natalya & Petrovic got the win in that match.

After that match, there was more to the story because Vice turned on Baszler. That led to Baszler choking out Vice. This led to NXT GM Ava booking a match between Baszler and Vice for NXT Battleground. It was also announced moments later that the two women would have an NXT Underground Match.

How Many Women’s NXT Underground Matches Have Taken Place In WWE History?

The WWE NXT brand has had several male Underground Matches, but there’s only been one women’s match with the Underground rules.

That match took place on the April 30th edition of WWE NXT when Lola Vice beat Natalya in an NXT Underground match thanks to some distraction help from Shayna Baszler, who choked out Karmen Petrovic outside the ring. That led to Natalya going after Baszler and Vice capitalized to win.
