WWE’s Nick Khan Has Important Hiring Rule

WWE President Nick Khan

Nick Khan has strong opinions about specific types of people regarding email reply etiquette.

As the WWE President and a member of the TKO Group’s Board of Directors, Nick Khan has a significant say in terms of what happens in WWE, even though he isn’t necessarily in charge of the on-screen product.

While speaking with the Sports Business Journal, Nick Khan discussed some of WWE’s hiring practices.

“No. 1, in our hiring practice, never hire people who do out-of-office replies. Not a fan. Message a person back, ‘Hey, I’m out of the office for the rest of the week. Do we need to talk now?’ No. 2 is, when you do have a vision for something and you’re going after it, if it’s not going well, you have to have people who work with you who can tell you that.

Khan would go on to discuss how people fail every day, but it’s essential to keep moving forward and start anew the next day.

Sometimes as you grow in an organization and you get more towards the top, there’s a lot of people who say, ‘It’s great!’ ‘It’s great!’ But if it’s not great, you got to make sure that you have the key people in place who will tell you, ‘I don’t think this is going well.’ And at that moment you got to pivot out of it.

We fail every day, multiple times every day, throughout the day. Don’t mistake that. The clock strikes midnight and resets for a reason. No matter how good the day was, how bad the day was, it’s over. So, the key employees are the ones who wake up the next morning with a fresh look on their face and have a fresh start.”

Nick Khan Feels WWE Is Underestimated

Although WWE is considered the undisputed leader in the world of professional wrestling, Nick Khan discussed how the company feels like an underdog, perhaps in comparison to other sports leagues.

“We’re always the underdog at WWE. We always feel that people underestimate us, that we’re looked down upon, and we like it that way. Bet against us, we prefer that, and allow us to show you what we can do. If you look at the stock price now, it’s far in excess of what it was when we all started together five years ago. We’re quite proud of that.

At the same time, we have to keep re-earning our keep on a daily basis here. We feel like it’s a good moment, but we feel like there is a lot of room for growth.”

Recently, Nick Khan provided insight into the internal reaction to Netflix’s documentary about Vince McMahon, which ultimately differed from the original plan for the documentary.
