WWE News: Kevin Owens Knee Surgery Update, Info on How Long He Will Be Out of Action

TJR Wrestling

Kevin Owens, the former WWE Universal Champion, that was a key guy on the Raw brand, will be out of action for several months following surgery to both knees. Last week we reported on the injury and we didn’t know how long he would be gone. This week, there is an estimated timeline.

Owens tweeted about his double knee surgery earlier this week with this tweet of his legs all wrapped up.

The expected recovery time for Owens to return to the ring is about four to five months based on a report from the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer. According to Meltzer, neither knee surgery was considered major although the left knee was damaged more and it was a bit more serious than they thought. Owens has already started rehab for his knees. Meltzer says that the tentative time for a return could be late February, but more likely in early March, which means right before WrestleMania in early April. It could be in April as well in a worst case scenario.

It was noted by Meltzer that Owens could be back for a match at WrestleMania if the creative team has something for him, but in past years they have opted to keep guys out until after WrestleMania. I remember Finn Balor was ready to return about one month before WrestleMania in 2017, yet they kept him off TV until the Raw after WrestleMania. Samoa Joe was in a similar situation earlier this year.

There has been no update from WWE on a recovery time for Owens. That’s typical of them because they don’t always provide those updates and sometimes when they do, they lie to try to fit something into their storyline.

TJR Thoughts: I’ll miss KO while he’s gone just like I miss Sami Zayn. A year ago, they were the best things going on WWE TV. Now they are both gone until around WrestleMania time next year. If WWE wants to book Owens as a face when he returns, they can have him feud with Bobby Lashley as revenge for Lashley injuring him (in the storyline) on the October 8 edition of Raw. Then again, this is WWE and they often times forget their own storylines. I’m just saying it may be a good idea to put them in a WrestleMania match with Owens seeking revenge.
